Vampires don’t only exist in Halloween tales—in the world of energy consumption, energy vampires are among us every day. Energy vampires suck up electricity even when powered off and can account for anywhere from 5 to 10 percent of your electricity consumption. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency estimates that energy vampires drink up $4 billion worth of electricity every year, roughly equal to the generation from 12 power plants. One way to combat these vampires is to plug multiple devices into a single power strip that you can unplug with ease, eliminating any power the energy vampires had.
